Watch: Trickster mongoose hilariously fakes death to fool bird

This mongoose showed the world - and this bird, that the wild can be as funny as it is fascinating.

I'm sure you would have seen those videos on social media of pet owners showing off how their pets play dead. A few days ago, I saw a man pretending to shoot his dog with his fingers, and the pooch played along.

But it's not only dogs who play dead, but mongooses too. Good Things Guy recently posted an article showing footage of a Dwarf Mongoose in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve trying to pull a fast one on a Yellow-Billed Hornbill.

The 1:07 clip, which was uploaded by safariLIVE on YouTube, shows the Mongoose pretending to be dead about six times around the bird. But what has left many in stitches is that this bird didn't seem too concerned by it all, as it is seen looking past the situation.

It seems that mongooses are playful creatures, this according to an expert in Dwarf Mongooses. Julia Kern, who is a founder of a research project about the creatures, told National Geographic that she thinks that the little guy (or girl) may have been doing it to play with the bird.

What a delightfully cute and cunning clip. Isn't it amazing that these little creatures know how to recreate the 'dead look'? Regardless of the actual reasons as to why the small creature played dead, it sure as hell confused the hornbill and had this lady who shot the video chuckling hard.

Hilarious!
