Oh no! When big events don't quite go according to plan

Jane recently hosted a birthday party for her kids, but things didn't quite go as expected. She decided to reflect on the day of chaos.

Parties in our home are a common occurrence. I love nothing more than a happy, busy, joy-fueled gathering. With three kids and two adults who love a good time, our home is known to be the place of good company, music, and food.

This past weekend, we had a combined party for all three kids, so all-in-all roughly 50 children and about 20 parents turned up. Sounds fun, right? Yes, and somewhat happy chaos as the rain bucketed down, lightning struck the house into darkness, and the garage flooded.

On the one side of the house, my daughter and her 20 girlfriends were having their nails and hair done in a tranquil spa-like set up - complete with cucumbers and all. The boys, on the other side, had a nine-meter inflatable pirate ship that was now a giant slip and slide thanks to the rain. It looked like it was pounding the seven seas! The garage, before it flooded, contained an inflatable sumo ring.

Every room was packed to capacity with people. In the lounge, the fire was roaring while some watched the rugby, some ate cake and drank tea in the kitchen, while others were packed under the bright blue stretch tent outside.

Every time a mom saw me, they would tell me how brave I was. To be honest, it was a happy day, and when I woke up on Saturday morning, I made a choice not to sweat the small stuff and to ride the day making memories, not trying to control the madness.

The kids had a ball - and that's all that matters. Rain or shine, the party goes on, and what a blast it was!
