Have you ever been 'ghosted' by an old friend?

Is there ever a valid excuse for ignoring someone who tries to reach out to you, despite the amount of time that has passed?

Have you ever been ghosted? You know that instance when someone stops talking or connecting with you, and you have no idea why? Well, it happened to me recently, and I was pretty taken aback. Here's what went down...

Sally (not her real name) was a girl from Pietermaritzburg that I used to spend a lot of time with. We used to club, shop, and spend the weekends at her family's home down the coast. You could say that we were pretty tight.

Due to life getting in the way, we lost touch a few years back, but recently she popped into my head. So, like everyone else, I took to Facebook to try and locate her and was successful.

After some friendship PI work, I found her. She was married (obviously the surname change didn't help with my search) and was living overseas. I excitedly inboxed her and, crickets, nothing! I could see that she read the message, but chose not to reply. So being thicker skinned, I tried again. I could see that she was active online, but still no response. But why? It was at this point that I realised that I was being ghosted and I had no clue why.

Maybe I remind her of a life that she once lived, and it doesn't fit into her new cosmopolitan set up? Either way, it's pretty rude I'd say. Rather just call it like it is, I mean, it's not like anything bad ever happened between us. As far as I can remember, we ended off on a good note the last time we spoke, so I'm still racking my brain to retrace my thoughts to see if I may have missed something along the way.
