Are people who display affection in public just showing off?

Jane has found another interesting study and this one states that 'people engage in public acts of affection to show off'. Hmmm...

Personally, public displays of affection have never been my thing. Sure Mr. T and I will hold hands, sit close, sneak a quick kiss in passing or tender ruffle of the hair or a hand on the back, but never a full grope sesh.

Young and old, it seems that people just love to get touchy-feely in public and they do not seem to care about where they are. I have always wondered if they really love being that close to each other all the time, do they want to mark their territory or do they want to shout out to the world that 'I AM IN A COMMITTED RELATIONSHIP'? Either way, for me, there is a time and place for everything.

I came across this topic the other day (sometimes I wonder if these studies are real), but it said that after conducting research on a group, they found that for most young people 'it’s not simply a case of being so in love they can’t stop themselves, it’s all about curating their image'. 

It also went on to say that males usually prompt the affection as females are afraid of being perceived in a bad light.

A few days ago, I got an eyeful on social media when seeing a couple doing the selfie thing while pulling in to each other, and they then followed that up with a pic of them putting their tongues together and I swear (gross alert), he had what looked like the remains of food on his tongue. Hell no!
