The King of the Monsters himself, Godzilla, just had a stint as Tokyo's police chief!

Yes, you read that right.

The terrifying creature, who has flattened buildings and tangled with powerful military (according to lore), donned a sash for a truly bizarre event.

Godzilla's no stranger to causing chaos, but this time, he was on the other side of the law. This publicity stunt, orchestrated by Toho Studios, saw Godzilla sworn in as chief for a day.

Reporters were staring up at the creature, microphones outstretched, as Godzilla posed for pictures with his new role for the day.

A clip from the event shows Godzilla looking surprisingly dapper in his ceremonial sash.

One can only imagine the bewildered (and maybe slightly terrified) reactions of Tokyo citizens as they encountered their usual city-wrecker now maintaining order.

This outlandish event served a dual purpose. Not only did it promote a new movie on the horizon but it also generated massive buzz for Godzilla, which is currently experiencing a resurgence in popularity, according to Comicbook.com

The whole thing was strange but undeniably fun. For one glorious day, Godzilla wasn't a terror but a slightly oversized symbol of law and order.

Who knows, maybe this is the start of a new Godzilla – one who uses his immense power for good, even if it's just for a photo op. One thing's for sure, with Godzilla back in the spotlight and a new movie on the horizon, the future looks monstrously exciting!
