A recent video has surfaced where a doctor removed 23 contact lenses from a patient. 

Much like a clown car, the lenses kept on coming and coming.

Dr Katerina Kurteeva is an ophthalmologist in Newport Beach, California, in the USA who successfully lent a hand to this eye emergency. 

A patient in her mid-70s, who wore daily contact lenses, came in saying she felt she had something in her eye that she simply couldn't get out. Little did she know the journey she was about to embark on...

Seniors generally come in once a year for checkups, however, this woman had skipped appointments and hadn't been in two years. 

Although her vision was blurry, it was the pain that bothered her most.

Everyone was stunned when 23 contact lenses ranging from yellow to blue were pulled out of the patient's eye. 

The video went viral 24 hours after it was posted by the doctor on various platforms.

This raising the point of how important eye-care is. 

Here are important tips when it comes to keeping your eyes healthy:

  • If you wear contacts, take steps to prevent eye infections such as removing them before you sleep
  • Give your eyes a rest from screen time
  • Wear UV protective glasses when out in the sun
  • Go for regular check ups
  • Do you pick your eyes 
  • Clean your eyes thoroughly if they come into contact with a foreign body
  • Seek professional help and advice
