Stacey and J Sbu share in the spirit of giving back

You have probably heard the familiar saying, “It is better to give than to receive.” KZN proved that this week as they came out in their numbers to help a dear fellow listener's family.

On Monday, Stacey and J Sbu shared a devastating story from loyal listener of the show, Mishkah Sheik and her family.

The Sheik family were awoken by smoke in their Musgrave flat last week, with the fire devastatingly wrecking their apartment.

The last 14 months plus have been really tough on people. The affects of the pandemic on health, finances, and mental well-being are of great concern.

Like many, the Sheik family had prayed and hoped that the new year would bring in new fortune. Unfortunately, the tragic fire has shattered those dreams as the family had to rush out of their apartment in the middle of the night.

They were forced to leave all their valuables behind.

Stacey and J Sbu were deeply touched by the story and decided to reach out to Mishkah. Listen to the podcast of their conversation below:

After Stacey and J Sbu chatted to Mishkah, who also revealed that her family was not the only one affected by the fire at their apartment building, the Drive team decided to do what they could to help.

The duo shared Mishkah's story with the rest of the KZN community, whom were not only quick to offer their compassion but calls for how they could get involved to assist too. With the approval of the family, the team shared the banking details of the Sheik family, should anyone be able to provide financial relief as the family tries to rebuild.

Further to that, Stacey and J Sbu committed to organising some non-perishable items for the family that they would deliver on Friday. As the duo was making plans for their trip, they were contacted by the SPAR Group, who had heard the Sheik's story on the radio.

Not only did SPAR want to make a donation to the Sheik family, but they also wanted to spread the gift of giving to five additional families who were affected by the fire in the apartment building!

Nozi Mkhize, who is the Advertising & Sponsorship Manager at SPAR KZN, helped facilitate the donation of food vouchers to the value of R10,000!
