A heartbreaking incident but luckily Underberg Emergency Services arrived quickly on the scene.
On Friday morning, Underberg Emergency Medical Services (UEMS) received a call from a severely concerned family member of an elderly woman who had been involved in a motor vehicle accident on the switchbacks of the Sani Pass road between South Africa and Lesotho.
As seen in the pictures below, the woman was in severe discomfort as the car skid the icy corners of Sani Pass and slid down the side of the mountain.
It has been reported that the vehicle rolled seven times before stopping in a stream. See below:

Spokesperson Kate Bodmann of the Underberg Emergency Medical Services (UEMS) reported that the woman was transported privately to Mokhotlong Hospital in Lesotho with serious injuries.
However, the family contacted UEMS to evacuate the woman from Lesotho back to South Africa safely.
I am the advanced life support paramedic and MD of Underberg EMS. The family were really concerned and there didn’t seem to be many viable options to extract the patient quickly. She’d been in the Mokhotlong Hospital for three days and wasn’t receiving an appropriate level of care due to their limited resources. Underberg EMS went up Sani Pass in our 4x4, which is configured to carry patients. On arrival at the hospital we used an IV line and I administered some intra venous pain relief and medication for nausea ahead of the long trip.- Kate Quinn
Kate Quinn further mentioned that she spoke with the daughter of the elderly woman on Monday and she confirmed that "she had multiple rib fractures but was stable and making a good recovery."
