Masks for what? Curfew for who? South Africans have clearly had enough

This past weekend, police busted a club called Blackdoor Lifestyle Lounge in Sandton after it was found operating after lockdown hours and to make things worse, no one was wearing a mask and it was packed over the allowed capacity.

Some South Africans seem to have had enough of being locked up in their homes.

When lockdown level 1 arrived, the rules for clubs stayed in place. Under the Disaster Management Act, clubs are not allowed to operate, but clearly no one really cares anymore.

Watch a video of a packed club:

The club that was shut down, according to Police Minister Bheki Cele, was operating past curfew, which is 00:00 during lockdown level 1, and it had more patrons than allowed. To make matters worse, none of the partygoers were wearing masks.

The club also allegedly has no liquor license. Shock and horror!

But the mask situation is not even a discussion anymore, because according to stats from the COVID-19 democracy survey, one in three South African adults don't wear masks when leaving home. We clearly don't value our lives.

People don't even want to wear masks in planes anymore, they have officially tapped out.

A passenger who had refused to wear a mask on a FlySafair flight had to be escorted off the aircraft.

Do you think it's still necessary to wear masks when out in public?
