So what is Moot Court?
Moot court is a simulation of a real court where students participate in the staged court proceedings that are related to a fictional dispute.
Stacey and J Sbu have asked an expert to share some tips to help you in your mooot-ing endeavours should the occasion ever arise.
Here are 5 tips to ace your moot from coach and lawyer Nqobile Dube:
1. Read the facts every single day
The drafters of the debate simulation leave clues to assist teams on both sides. It is important to ask why they mentioned a specific detail and how you can use it in your submissions.
2. Change your approach
When practising submissions, remember that judges always prefer a conversational approach rather than a monotone reading of arguments.
Speaking with emphasis and a graduation of tones aids in getting your point across and a longevity of listenership.

3. Research
Doing as much research as possible is very important. Find the cases that work against you and find responses to them.
Additionally, finding cases that support your argument will lead to your success.
4. Composure and game face
Do not be stressed if you feel like you do not have an adequate response to questions from the judges. What's important is to have a good argument, not a correct argument. Remain calm at all times and don't let the nerves get the better of you.

5. Teamwork
Teamwork makes the dream work. Work together with your partners and coaches. Moot court is a participatory sport that requires input from everyone in the team. The better the synchronicity, the better the outcome.
