Now, if someone saw you drop it, he or she might have yelled, "five-second rule!" This so-called rule says food is OK to eat if you pick it up within five seconds.

It is a go-to excuse if you drop your favourite snack, but does it actually work? The thought process behind it is that you have five seconds to pick it up and eat it before it gets too dirty for you to eat.

But now the bigger thought process behind this is which type of food is actually acceptable within this so-called "five-second rule"? Is it ice-cream, a burger, a sweet, fruit?

So, KZN, when you drop something that you are eating, do you still eat it after five seconds or do you immediately throw it away?
