As students are enjoying their holiday period, the Department of Home Affairs has released a statement that will benefit the country's youth.

According ot the Department, its operating hours will be extended on weekdays from 7 July to 21 July 2025. Instead of closing at 4 pm they will now close at 6 pm.

The Department stated that the decision to extend operating hours was made to assist learners who want to apply for and collect their identity documents (IDs) during the holiday period.

In addition, Home Affairs has created a counter specifically for collections in their larger offices that process Smart ID Cards and passports. The aim is to ease pressure on clients.

Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Leon Schreiber, said: “I would like to encourage all clients who have applied for their identification documents and have been waiting for three weeks or more, to seize this opportunity by visiting their Home Affairs office to collect these critical documents at their convenience.”

Those wishing to apply or collect can book appointments online before visiting the Home Affairs offices using the Branch Appointment Booking System (BABS). This is available on the Department of Home Affairs website. Click here to access the link.

Those who were unable to or may not have had the opportunity to book an appointment will be able to visit as a walk-in.
