It's not every day that we see something wild wash up on the shores of Mzansi, but when it happens, we make "shore" to fill you in.

Here are some of the most flabbergasting things that have beached in 2022:

1. Release the Kraken

This is possibly one of the rarest sightings we have ever witnessed on our South African shores.

A giant "kraken" carcass washed up on the rocky shore of Scarborough Beach in Cape Town, South Africa, on Tuesday, 16 August.

2. Octopus illusion

This one may not have been on the beaches of Mzansi, but it definitely swarmed our social feeds.

A viral TikTok posted by @mim.in.sydney had us shook when we saw what mysterious beast had washed up on the shore of Bondi Beach.

5. It's been a "whale" of a time

Over and above some of the shocking things that wash up on our beaches, we also have some heart-breaking scenarios. An ECR listener reached out and shared this shocking footage of whale remains found on the shore of Salmon Bay Beach in Ballito.
