Many non-South Africans have tried to understand the concept of a braai and have failed dismally.

But this American woman has made us proud with her innate and profound understanding of what it means to braai.

She posted a video about the comparison between a braai and a barbeque.

In her video, she boldly asks the question: "What is the difference between an American Barbeque and a South African Braai?

She reveals that the two are nothing alike. It was surprising and humbling to watch an American speak so highly of a cultural win in our country. We won't say more than that...

But the best part of it was that she got it. She fully grasped that a braai isn't just grilling meat on the braai stand, it is so much more than that.

Take a look at her video below, courtesy of TikTok

  • "Every braai is different depending on ethnicity and culture."
  • "Braai is unique to us South Africans 🇿🇦 and Barberque in our vocabulary is either a sauce or braai spice"

  • "Sister you confused our braai is equivalent to what you guys in America call a "Cookout""
  • "Braai is a lifestyle. Get to watch wood burn for 2 hours while drinking and lost in conversation. Throw on some game meat and braai broodjies"
