Sperm washing: A method to fight the spread of HIV
Stacey Leigh Wilson, a Embryologist from the Pietermaritzburg Fertility Clinic, joined Thandolwethu on Tuesday evening to talk about the procedure that's changing the lives of couple's infected with HIV.
Wilson, who specialises in reproductive biology, shared how an HIV decontamination wash procedure is done.

Wilson also shared how the above procedure, when coupled with assisted reproductive techniques, can greatly reduce the chances of the HIV virus being transmitted to a potential partner or offspring from someone who may have the virus. An HIV diagnosis is no longer a death sentence, but some hurdles still remain for people living with the disease. One of which is the dilemma of wanting to have children.
