Watch: Durban-based Black City performs live in studio
Updated | By East Coast Radio
The proudly Durban band joined the #PlayLocal show to perform their first single, which has a title with an interesting story behind it.

Black City is a Durban-based band headlined by singer-songwriter, Yogan Naidoo.
In studio as well as at their live performances, Black City operates as a creative collective, drawing on the talent and support of the finest musicians the City of Durban has to offer. Production is by “Banks On It” Studios, led by Paul Stainbank.
The band was also the opening act for Hugh Masekela's Durban concert in March last year.
Black City’s music encompasses a variety of musical influences, including jazz, R&B, pop, hip-hop, and alternative rock. The band is named after the famous “Casbah” area of Durban, which was a hive of political and musical evolution in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, earning the nickname “Black City” by apartheid’s security forces.
The band’s 1st single “Vilakazi Street” was released in early 2015 and playlisted on major South African radio stations such as East Coast Radio.
In February 2018, Black City released their 2nd original self-penned single called “Saturday”; a groove-inducing, summer anthem shout out and dedication to the eternal “City of Summertime”, the place they call home, Durban.
