Two gay guys, a baby... and one special mom
Updated | By East Coast Drive
What's the greatest gift a mother could give her son?
Calvin and Dwayne Moncur are a happily married, gay couple who live in Umhlanga in KwaZulu-Natal.
Kim Pienaar is Calvin’s mother. Calvin decided a while back (while he was still single) that he wanted to have a child.
Being a single, gay man, he initially thought this would be near impossible, but he started investigating the option of surrogacy.
A short while later, he met and married Dwayne, and the subject of surrogacy came up once again as they both agreed they wanted children.
This is where Calvin’s mom, Kim returns to the picture.
Kim agreed to be the surrogate for the couple. Note, she is like the vessel or the oven.
After a long process involving both health and psychometric testing for all three of them, the baby is due in July 2016. It hasn’t been all smooth-sailing though.
