#ShortestDay: Celebrate the winter solstice and win BIG in the process
Traditionally, in many temperate regions, the winter solstice is seen as the middle of winter, but in some countries and calendars, it is seen as the beginning of winter.
The winter solstice, also known as midwinter, occurs when one of the earth's poles has its maximum tilt away from the sun. This happens twice yearly.
For us South Africans this year, we will be experiencing the shortest day and the longest night on Friday, 21st June 2019. Since the day is so short, there’s really no point in getting out of your pyjamas, right?!
It's competition time!
To celebrate the winter solstice, we at East Coast Drive propose the following:
Get your whole office to wear pyjamas to work this Friday, tweet us the photos @ecrdrivetime, and use the hashtag #ShortestDay.
We will choose one person who will win dinner for two at the Grill Jichana on Friday night because the day is too short to still have to cook and you will spend the night at the Southern Sun Elangeni Maharani because the night is too long to spend it in your own room.
