'Phuc Dat Bich' one big hoax
Updated | By East Coast Drive
The man behind the apparent Facebook dispute regarding his name has revealed it was all a hoax.
East Coast Breakfast posted the story about a man apparently named Phuc Dat Bich who was having trouble with Facebook due to his name.
Well, it turns out it was one big prank.
The Vietnamese-Australian social media user tricked the world by uploading a doctored passport profile picture with the fake name.
The story was covered by big international media outlets including Sky, the BBC and the Guardian.
'Phuc Dat Bich' has now revealed in a new Facebook post the whole thing was a fake.
He wrote: “Facebook needs to understand that it is utterly impossible to legitimise a place where there will always be pranksters and tricksters."
He said, "“Out of this ordeal I’ve concluded not to trust the credibility of the media, it’s twisted by the hungry journalists who mask the truth... It goes to show that an average Joe like myself can con the the biggest news sources with ease.”
Was this just a silly prank or one with a legitimate purpose and lesson?
