Is it possible to be 'friends with benefits' and actually have that as the best 'situationship' you've ever had in your life?

Bongani was away up north of KZN this weekend, and whilst away he saw a couple whom he thought was married.
He and the guy got acquainted on the Saturday night at the bar over drinks, and the guy told Bongani that he and his partner weren't actually married.
He confessed that they are in fact, friends with benefits. And have been in this situationship for over a year.

Everything is going superbly for them, according to the guy, except he now wants more from this set up and it's killing him knowing that if he were to propose changing their status to being an official couple, it might make him lose her.
Is it possible to be friends with benefits?
