Waterspout spotted off an Umhlanga beach!
Updated | By East Coast Breakfast
It's quite fascinating to see a waterspout take place off Durban shores. Natural events such as these normally take place in other countries.
Durbanites gathered in astonishment as they witnessed a waterspout in Umhlanga.
What looks like a water hurricane in the distance is actually water spiraling in a circular motion on the surface of the sea.
The atmosphere around the waterspout is dark and gloomy, which, at first glance, does look like a hurricane moving towards the shore.
According to National Geographic, a waterspout is a column of cloud-filled wind rotating over a body of water.
Despite its name, a waterspout is not filled with water from the ocean or lake. A waterspout descends from a cumulus cloud. It does not "spout" from the water. The water inside a waterspout is formed by condensation in the cloud.
