WATCH: Ed the Zebra’s great escape comes to an end
Updated | By East Coast Breakfast
When life gives you a runaway zebra, you call a helicopter. Ed the Zebra gets airlifted back home.

Ladies and gentlemen, meet Ed. He’s not your average zebra.
Ed isn’t hanging out on the African plains or posing for safari pictures. Nope.
Ed lives in Tennessee. Well, he was supposed to.
Just one day after arriving from a breeder in Texas, Ed decided he wasn’t about that fenced-in life.
Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office reported that on May 31, the striped renegade busted out of his new home in Christiana and went full Prison Break.
For over a week, Ed roamed highways, crashed doorbell cameras, and lurked in the woods south of Nashville.
Social media exploded, loads of memes were made, and it sort of became a game of “Spot the Ed”. It was beautiful.
Surprisingly, zebras are legal to own in Tennessee. No special permits needed, no exotic animal licence. Just vibes.
Here’s the thing, though: catching a zebra is like trying to grab a bar of wet soap in the bath.
They’ve got a “strong ducking reflex,” which basically means Ed could sidestep even the best Sharks player.
After days of zebra hide-and-seek, local authorities finally spotted Ed via a drone near a tree line.
A vet swooped in, safely tranquilized our boy, before being airlifted home.
This is probably the cutest and most bizarre thing you’ll see the entire year.
Ed’s now back with his owners, Taylor and Laura Ford, probably grounded for life and being monitored by a vet.
Meanwhile, debates about keeping exotic pets have started up again.
Apparently “zebra on the loose” wasn’t on anyone’s 2025 bingo card.
Let this be a lesson to everyone though. Rather leave the exotic pets in the wild to roam free.
