Top 5 reasons why we need technology in football

The referees made it difficult for us to enjoy the beautiful game this past weekend.

Imagine you were a soccer player or coach.

You train and prepare for a match the whole week only for one wrong decision to ruin it for you.

Let us look at some of the costly decisions that took place this past weekend.

1. Orlando Pirates' third goal by Tendai Ndoro against Jomo Cosmos should not have stood. Ndoro was offside.

That goal made it 3-1 to Pirates and extinguished any comeback hope for Cosmos.

2. Mamelodi Sundowns profited from one of those bad calls from the officials against Mbombela United. The own goal by Thabo Nthethe which could have drawn Mbombela United level was ruled out. From a subseqent "offside" Sundowns scored the third goal, which made it 3-1. That killed the morale of the second tier team who were all over Sundowns at the time. I believe Mbombela United were in a strong position to win the match prior that decision.

3. In the match between Barcelona and Real Madrid, the referee let play continue after Luis Suarez had fuled Sergio Ramos. The referee then cautioned Ramos for complaining. How insane! That made things difficult for Ramos because Barcelona players were then targeting Ramos, knowing that he is already on a yellow card. He eventually got sent off.

4. In the same Barcelona and Madrid match, Ramos who was already on a yellow card escaped justice twice. He fouled Messi on the edge of the box and he elbowed Suarez inside the Madrid box. Both incidents were not spotted by the officials. Ramos should have been sent off three times!

5. Gareth Bale scored a perfectly good goal and it was disallowed! He was perfectly onside and he did not foul Jordi Alba who was competing for the ball. Watch the goal below and be the judge.
