Starting at number 5, we have:

5. Arsenal bottling the Premier League title

For a long time it looked like the Gooners were going to win the title for the first time since 2004. From being 8 points ahead to being 4 points behind with a week or two to go - the gunners did a perfect job of bottling it whilst giving Man City a 3 consecutive title.

4. Banyana Banyana FIFA Women’s World Cup

It was absolutely brilliant. A massive milestone for South African football seeing Banyana qualify for a knockout stage of a World Cup for the first time ever and also going further than any men’s team that’s fixture at the World Cup. Assumed to be a tournament filled with what ifs, the results showed 2-0 up vs Argentina to finally draw 2-2. The girls really flew the flag high. What a beautiful World Cup it was.

3. Lebron James breaks NBA All time scoring record

7 February 2023 saw the unthinkable happen. The kid from Akron broke one of the longest standing records in sport - the NBA scoring record. It was only a matter of time but when it happened, The King entered a class of his own. 38,390 points and counting. Kareem previously had the crown but now it’s taken by James...and I don’t think it will ever be touched again.

2. Women Proteas T20 WC performance

South African women sport have reached new heights this year. From Banyana to Spar Proteas(netball) - the Women Proteas may have just surpassed that mini achievement ladder. Hosting a world cup ,which was just awesome, but our SA team was just incredible. Now, I’m that person who hates 2nd place and never likes celebrating silver but geez, this one felt like gold.

South Africa won in a dramatic final breaking England’s hearts in the second semi-final at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023. They become the first South African side to make a cricket World Cup final! Yes, we lost in the final, but my goodness our dreams were so close to being reality. Well done girls!

1. Bokke x4

Arguably the greatest night in South African sport since November 2019. The Boks brought back the William Webb Ellis trophy!

In the streets we said MAYIBUYE and that it did. I would never want to relive those 3 knockout games of 1 points but take me back to the streets of Mzansi pre and post the final - BUZZING. Siyamthanda Kolisi and the uncle Jacques and Rassie thank you for defending the nations most sacred trophy and 2027 it’s a 3 peat!
