The Betway SA20 has been unforgettable for South Africa. From viral videos to stellar performances, the cricket has impressed loyal fans and social watchers on a scale like never before.

The epic second season of the Betway SA20 drew to a close on Saturday night as Sunrisers Eastern Cape stormed to a second consecutive trophy.

Our very own sports lead, Sky Tshabalala, was on the ground and had a surprise meet up with South Africa's MMA champion, Dricus du Plessis. See below how the night unfolded:

Heartbreak was the order of business for Durban’s Super Giants, who struggled to shrug off the emotional rollercoaster of the preceding week’s qualification process.

A lacklustre bowling display saw DSG’s bowlers punished by Tom Abell and Tristan Stubbs, as the Sunrisers stormed to 204/3 in front of a capacity crowd at Newlands.

The pressure of this mammoth target was compounded by the significance of the occasion, and Durban's batting folded, resulting in them being bundled out for 115. The only resistance with the bat came from a crafty 38 by Wiaan Mulder, and Sunrisers Eastern Cape surged to an 89-run win.

Though the Super Giants couldn’t secure the title, we're extremely proud of our team. They were a rampant force throughout the competition, and came unstuck against an impressive outfit.

A real highlight of the tournament has been seeing local stadiums filled with massive crowds, even during weeknights! The interested piqued by the tournament has injected much-needed optimism into South Africa’s cricket landscape.

We can’t wait for next year’s edition, and we believe that this learning will prepare Durban’s Super Giants for glory in the next Betway SA20.
