SA DJ hosts farting competition to keep youngsters off the streets

Forget the Monday blues, as this story had all of us.... laughing in the office. There's a guy in Pretoria who managed to win R500 because he was so good at farting.

Farting competition
Although farting stinks and is very embarrassing, we all know it is completely natural, and a DJ in Pretoria is using it to help youngsters stay off drugs, which is a brilliant thing.

In April alone, popular drug Mercedes claimed the lives of at least four KwaMashu residents and left over 30 in hospital.

Now, DJ Thabo Mahlare thought of a very unusual thing that could help youngsters off the streets, a farting competition.

The idea, according to Mahlare, was inspired by people in his area farting a lot. "When we are just chilling, someone will just fart loudly," he told reporters.

The competition, which took place at Mahube Complex in Mamelodi, Pretoria over the weekend, saw Thapelo Mothongwane walk away with R500.

"I will use my prize money to buy myself cosmetics and to get nice things to enjoy with the rest of the family while we watch TV," Mothongwane told Daily Sun.

In second place was Kabelo Sethekge, who is reportedly recovering from a drug addiction.

“Competitions are fun and they keep us busy. With the money we won here we will be able to buy food without stealing from anyone,” Sethekge said.

Organiser Mahlare told the publication he was glad no one shat themselves.

“I’m so glad it ran smoothly and no one shat themselves,” he told the publication.

Mahlare hopes the youngsters will compete internationally.

"I'm hoping people take this seriously enough to want to sponsor it so that we can send these kids to go compete internationally. Some people don't realise that farting is a talent and can you realise how different their lives could be if they were given the platform to try out their talents," he told Sowetan.
