Parking the bus is Tactical

There is no need for Pitso Mosimane and other football coaches to complain about teams that play defensively.

There is an ongoing controversy between the Kaizer Ciefs coach, Steve Khompela and the Mamelodi Sundowns coach, Pitso Mosimane regarding the way Chiefs setup in the most recent encounter between these two sides.

Let me start by corrcting Mosimane, Chiefs do not play with five defenders as per his claims. They play with just three. The other two players which he perceives to be defenders are actually wingbacks, meaning they are part of the midfield unit.

That being said, even if Khompela played five defenders there would be no law he is breaking. It would not be his fault if opponents are failing to break his defence down.

If you have many players in defensive positions it is up to your opponents to push more of their own players forward or try various other strategies to penetrate.

You can not tell your opponent how they must set up. Even if I tell all my 11 players to stay in my box, it is your problem to try and find a way to counter that not mine.

I am not encouraging poor tactics like that but complaining about them is cowardice. If you football is attacking and entertaining and if you think you've got a better football brain than mine why don't you circumvent that tactical obstacle?

Big teams like FC Barcelona and Real Madrid normally face off against defensively stubborn teams like Atletico Madrid and Chelsea but they do not complain.
