Homosexuality in sports is a topic to be discussed further in South African sports and Jozi Cats have started the conversation. Based in Johannesburg, the team consists of straight and gay men united in the good name of the good game -rugby.

The Jozi cats recently launched a provocative campaign aimed at taking common homophobic slurs and turning them into a positive, humorous message.

Why is there even a need for a club like this in the country?

“The truth of the matter is that many of our players don’t feel like they can be openly gay and be a rugby player in South Africa,” said club chairman and Jozi Cats player Teveshan Kuni, reporting to Daily Maverick
