Kyalami community bakes birthday cakes for underprivileged kids
Updated | By East Coast Breakfast
Every child deserves to enjoy their birthday, and this selfless community is making sure every child's special day is celebrated with something delicious, made with love.

What's a birthday without a yummy, delicious cake?
A community in Johannesburg is making sure that the underprivileged children of Kyalami get to enjoy their birthdays by baking them cakes.
The project was started by Samantha Griffiths who was shattered to learn that many children in her local community don't get to celebrate their birthdays.
So she decided to choose a school on a monthly basis and have a teacher select one child whose family couldn’t afford a birthday cake. She would then bake that child a cake.

But selecting one child a month meant that many others went without, so Samantha reached out to her community to see if there would be any volunteers who would join her in baking cakes.
Over 20 different people stepped forward to start baking cakes for children.
“You don’t need to be a pro, my cakes are far from perfect and I still have tons of learning to do.”
