Staying warm at home can be expensive. Here are some winter warmer hacks for your home that will keep you comfortable without upping your electricity bill.

- Run your ceiling fan on low and spin it clockwise (reverse, there is usually a little switch on the ceiling fan) to help warm air trapped by the ceiling to make it back down to floor level.

- Make use of the KZN winter sun to help warm your home. Open the curtains when the sun is out. Even with cool outside temps, the sun will help your home stay warmer.

- If you are using your oven to do your cooking, once your food is done, keep the oven door open and enjoy the extra heat.

- Light candles. The flames do warm up the room slightly, but also the flames give you the illusion of heat and distract you from the cold.

- Use thick curtains to help keep heat in. If you don't want to change the look of your room, line your existing curtains with a shower curtain.

- Place a hot water bottle in your bed (under the duvet) before you get in and enjoy a wonderfully warm bed. And while you’re there, put your PJs on top of the hot water bottle for the best experience ever.
