Keri Miller Tips: Unique ways to keep warm

Winter has hit KZN hard this week and Keri Miller has a few pointers to help you keep warm....for free!

Keeping warm
Good idea: Use cheap clear shower curtains over the windows that get direct sunlight.

This keeps the chilly air out while the sunshine warms the inside of the room. If you don't have a clear shower curtain you could  cover your windows with clear plastic sheets. It may not win the interior design award but you'll be warm :)

Bad idea: Use your pet for extra warmth.

Use this time to cuddle up with your bestie could be frowned upon but it is remarkably effective. On the lap for a blanket. In the bed as a hot water bottle. Around your neck like a scarf. under your feet as slippers

Good idea: Make sure all the windows are properly closed and notice the gaps underneath the doors. You'd be surprised how much cold air comes in under the door. For a semi-permanent fix, I just use a dirty towel from the washing pile and block the gap. Amazing.

Bad idea: Save the break ups for summer.

This is the time for some skin on skin warmth. Whatever is wrong in your relationship will still be wrong in September. Springtime for break-ups. Winter for couple warmth.Good idea: drink a warm drink. Now a cup of tea/coffee or hot chocolate does NOT actually change your internal temperature, (which is good because we need to keep a stable body temp), but because our mouths are so sensitive, the heat makes us believe we are warming up, and so we actually feel warmer. Plus the warm cup in your hands is toasty.

Bad idea: create a cheap and effective indoor heating system by setting fire to all the clothes that don't fit you anymore due to the winter weight. You will have a nice warm room and no guilt because of those jeans that you can't close anymore.
