An icon, a legend, and a humble soul, Johnathan Clegg died in his Johannesburg home on Tuesday afternoon after having succumbed to a long-standing battle with pancreatic cancer.

Johnny considered himself an African, he used music to speak to every person and with his unique style, he traversed cultural barriers like few others. In many of us, he awakened awareness.

Johnny was born on 7 June 1953 in Bacup, Lancashire, England and moved to Johannesburg, South Africa with his Rhodesian mother when he was six. His exposure to Zulu migrant workers during adolescence introduced him to the culture and music. His involvement with black musicians often saw him arrested during Apartheid.

Darren, Keri, and Sky spoke to his manager, friend, and family spokesman Roddy Quin, who shared some of his fondest memories of his dear friend. Stuart Berry, from Impi Concerts, took us down memory lane as well.

Listen to the audio to hear their heartfelt tribute.

As part of the Old Mutual Music at the Lake series, Johnny and Ladysmith Black Mambazo performed together at Durban Botanic Gardens. Two KZN artists with such history behind them, at the gardens, collaborating on stage for the first time.

It was a beautiful moment which will never be forgotten:
