There's something about retuning to your roots that ignites a passion in people.

Those words were echoed quite a lot during the press conference at the Hollywoodbets Shark Tank when the Director of Rugby, Neil Powell, announced the return of John Plumtree as head coach.

The much loved former Natal player returns to KZN for his second stint in the job. He will be assisted by the experienced and well-liked Dave Williams, who also returns to The Sharks as an assistant coach.

So much is expected from the Sharks this coming season, so the New Zealander popped into East Coast Radio to have a chat with the East Coast Breakfast team.

Sky Tshabalala couldn't hide his excitement at meeting the man who assisted the All Blacks, but who has also been the darling son of KZN for many years.

"Everyone seems to forget this, but he was here when we were Currie Cup champions in 2008 as well as 2010, so he definitely knows how to win," says Sky.

According to the Sharks website, Plumtree’s coaching career in Durban began in 2007 when he was assistant to Dick Muir.

The Sharks at the time hosted the Super Rugby final at Hollywoodbets Kings Park. This was before the New Zealander took over the reins as head coach between 2008 and 2012.

Plumtree is excited to be back in KZN and believes his experiences have lead him back to Durban as a better coach.

"Durban has always been my home away from home for many years and I have the fondest memories of my time here both as a player and a coach. I look forward to returning to The Sharks set-up and working with a talented group of players," says Plumtree.
