How to make the most of summer in KZN

Some things to consider...

It's the most wonderful time of the year. The sun is out to play and what better place to spend it than the province of KwaZulu-Natal?

Despite the wacky weather conditions, severe effect of the KZN Floods, and conditions of our beaches, there are some things to look forward to.

Here is a guide to what we reckon you should add to your list:

The tourist hotspots will always be a winning bet. Sunny days at Thompson's Bay, uShaka Marine World, or the Mahai Cascades are a surefire way for relaxation and the creation of memories.

Cast your gaze far above and at the historically-significant forest below at Dlinza Forest Ariel Boardwalk in Eshowe, which is a massively underrated visit. If you're craving some time with animals, take a day-trip north to say "Hi" to the hippos at the St Lucia Estuary, or go for a snorkel tour at Cape Vidal.

Breathtaking experiences are around every corner, and a visit to the Drakensburg will refuel you after a year of hard work. An adrenaline-filled rush can be found at Wild 5 Adventures at the spectacular Oribi Gorge, where you'll experience the world's highest gorge swing.

If you're craving a bit of mental stimulation, visit the province's world-renowned battlefields, the Kwa-Muhle Museum, or the Shakaland Cultural Village for a look into our textured history.

Everyone knows that it's totally okay to abandon your diet for your holidays, and some of the most delicious food in Mzansi can be found in the province this season. Check out C-Bali at St Mike's for the most delicious sushi, grab a bunny at the Britannia Hotel, breakfast like royalty at The Grand Exotic in Ballito, or tuck into some unbeatable confectionery from Chocolate Heaven in Notties.

And, to the chagrin of all our visitors, rainy bouts are inevitable during the festive period. So, where do you go in the rain?

Check out the Natural History Museum in City Hall, which is free and rich in experiences. Pull out your umbrella and take a tour around one of the southernmost coffee plantations on the planet at Beaver Creek, or consider checking out the famed Victoria Street Market, where you'll inhale the rich culture of our province.
