Updated | By Supplied
The Litterboom Project cares about the environment, and the team needs your help to clean-up the Umgeni River.
Listen as the team chat to Cameron Service about the Litterboom Project clean-up, or read the details under the podcast.
On Monday the 11th March, following heavy rains in the Durban and greater Durban catchment areas, the mighty Umgeni River was the focus of Durban’s attention, with an unfathomable amount of plastic and other waste material washing down-stream to the river mouth and strewn all along our beautiful coastline.

Thanks to a handful of passionate and proactive people, they were able to circulate the extent of this horrific culmination of Durban’s plastic via social media platforms. It was quickly evident to both citizens and corporate entities that they needed the assistance of everyone and anyone to tackle this mammoth crisis, before the mounds of plastic ended up in our ocean.
The Litterboom Project have been absolutely blown away by this collective effort, from donations, volunteers, equipment sponsorship, food for the teams and all the encouragement and recognition that has been received.
They will be doing cleanups on the following days, so feel free to join them and show your support, not only financially but with your hands and time on the following days:
- Thursday, 14th March - 8am-3:30pm
