The much-beloved television star Matthew Perry has tragically passed away at the age of 54 in an apparent drowning. 

ECR NewsWatch reports: "First responders found Perry unconscious in a hot tub at his house and were unable to revive him, law enforcement sources told the Los Angeles Times."

During the height of his career, he suffered with crippling addiction to painkillers and alcohol. He attended rehabilitation clinics on multiple occasions, but he still suffered medical repercussions of his drug abuse. 

Nevertheless, Matthew was admired by all, especially for his wise-cracking role in 'Friends'.

  • Matthew Perry was the youngest of the main cast of 'Friends'. He secured the role of Chandler Bing at the age of 24.
  • Matthew Perry's final line in the show has become even more legendary following his death. In the final scene after an awkward silence between the friends who don't want to say goodbye, there is a legendary line from Chandler when they decide to go for coffee. "Where?" Chandler asks, joking about the fact that the Central Perk coffee shop is the most used location in the show.
  • Although 'Friends' ended in 2004, the main cast members receive a yearly check of R377-million ($20-million) in royalties alone.
