A family selfie at the cinema has gone viral for the scariest reasons.

A day out at the movies turned into a viral story when Emma Johnson took her children to the cinema to watch 'Finding Dory.'

To celebrate her daughter's first trip to the cinema, Emma decided to commemorate the outing with a selfie of her family - George, six, Ava, eight and first-time cinema-goer seven-month-old Harper.

When Emma got home to gush at the proud moment she captured at the movies, she noticed something unusual with the photograph.

"It was only when we got home and checked the photo that we saw the ghost and I could make out a little girl and a teddy next to her. I didn't even think that it was possible to have a teddy bear ghost", she told Mirror.

Emma did not what to scare her children so she told them "that the spook was a marketing ploy to promote the new Ghostbusters film to stop them from being scared." according to Mirror.

She posted the image online with a suggestion that it might be a ghost of a little girl who drowned at sea nearby and she's being accused of using digital software to edit the image but she insists it's the genuine article.

Do you think it's really a ghost or fault with the lighting?
