Fur real? Cat caught smuggling drugs into Costa Rican prison
Updated | By East Coast Breakfast / Skyye Ndlovu
A Costa Rican prison just caught a whiskered smuggler with a stash of weed and crack strapped to its fur.

Now, here’s a plot twist no one saw coming, straight out of a feline version of Narcos.
Prison guards in Costa Rica recently busted a four-legged felon attempting a daring drug run… and no, we’re not kitten around.
According to a very official (and probably slightly amused) statement from the country’s Ministry of Justice, officers at the Pococí Penitentiary spotted the furry suspect prowling around the prison grounds on May 6.
What tipped them off? It was the grey patches on its fur that looked a little too suspicious for your average prison cat.
Curiosity may have killed the cat, but in this case, it saved the day.
On closer inspection, those patches turned out to be bags of drugs, including a hefty 236 grams of marijuana and 86 grams of crack cocaine.
Yep, this whiskered smuggler was moving weight like a seasoned street boss.
The moment of truth was even caught on camera as officers cornered the feline felon while it attempted a quick getaway up a tree.
Move over, Pablo Escobar. Pawblo Escobarkitty is in town.

Naturally, the authorities confiscated the narcotics and handed the cat over to Costa Rica’s National Animal Health Service for evaluation.
One can only imagine the awkward vet check-up:
“So, Mr. Whiskers… anything you’d like to tell us?”
This isn’t something new though. It turns out inmates have been using food to lure animals into prisons after their criminal accomplices on the outside strap them with drugs.
It’s like a twisted game of Animal Crossing: Narco Edition.
Andres Gutierrez, head of the Panama Penitentiary System, confirmed the feline was fully loaded and ready to purr-form.
Authorities suspect this is part of a bigger scheme by prisoners and outside contacts using strays as tiny, unwitting drug couriers.

Now, while we love a good animal story, this one’s got a darkly comic edge.
It’s proof that when it comes to smuggling contraband, human creativity knows no limits.
Not even the loyalty of man’s second-best friend.
One thing’s for sure: somewhere out there, a very disappointed drug lord is having to explain to his boss how he lost a shipment to a cat.
Fur real.
