Darren Maule reads to KZN following sad StatsSA finding
Updated | By East Coast Breakfast
The importance of reading is incomparable to any value in the world, so Darren used recent findings from StatsSA to do something quite extraordinary live on air.
Listen to the podcast or read the details below:
Darren Maule discovered some rather disturbing news recently which made him do something rather extraordinary.
After StatsSA released their 2018 General House Survey, nearly 47% of South African children were found to have never had a book read to them by a parent or guardian.

Shocking, right?
Darren opened the floor to the parents of KZN to find out if they read to their kids. Most parents said that they don't read to their kids because their kids are tired when it comes to bedtime. Others said that their parents weren't able to read and write in their days as a child, but that didn't stop them from learning.
Even a grade eight and nine educator commented on the stats.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”- Nelson Mandela
Nevertheless, Darren took some time out to read to KZN:
