Complacency, celebratory mode killing Sundowns

Complacency, celebratory mode killing Sundowns

The African champions have crashed out of the first two domestic tournaments and are dropping points in the league but it could have been avoided.

Mamelodi Sundowns have conquered Africa but their form in the domestic league leaves a lot to be desired.

They lost 3-0 to Bidvest Wits in the MTN8 final and have been beaten by 10-men SuperSport United in the  Telkom Knockout.

In the league they are second from the bottom with four points collected out of a possible nine.

After qualifying for the CAF Champions League final the team started being complacent and thought they will just walk over all the local teams. That is letting them down.

After winning the Champions League, their coach, Pitso Mosimane said "Only Sundowns can beat Sundown" and they lost two of the following three games.

It shows that they now have no respect for their opponents.

The other thing that is letting them down is the celebratory mode that they are still in. The only thing they care about now is parading the trophy around Pretoria and telling whoever cares to listen that they will be representing Africa at the FIFA Club World Cup.

The Brazilian need to start taking local games seriously now, especially because they have a backlog. Playing catch up is no child's play.

Mosimane must also stop justifying the hefty fee he forked out for Sibusiso Vilakazi by playing him all the time. The player is unfit since he wasn't playing regularly for his former team, Wits. He must be dropped for Themba Zwane or Percy Tau.
