Breakfast team dissects the new ABBA penalty system
Updated | By Benedict Ngwenya
The much talked about penalty shootout system has finally been approved by the English Football League for competitions and it was used in the Community Shield on Sunday.
Arsenal beat Chelsea 4-1 in the shootout after the match ended in a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
This new system has created a bigger problem where if the first team misses, the team that goes second faces an imminent 2-0 advantage. Well, they do have to score themselves, obviously.
In Sunday's encounter, Chelsea missed two penalties in a row and Arsenal capitalised, using their next two chances to win the match, with Chelsea having only taken three penalties in total.
I still prefer the old system where you get one chance immediately after your opponent.
What are your thoughts on the new system?
