The R380-million promenade upgrade is set to be the platform for Durban's hub of tourist attractions. Thousands of people flocked to join in on the festivities.

It’s now the longest uninterrupted waterfront promenade in Africa – making the city’s most important tourism asset even more attractive. Drone footage of the event shows the impeccable design and artwork, as well as the true beauty of Durban - breathtaking ocean views, surrounded by amazing people.

The promenade extension spans 750 meters long and 30 meters wide, making it altogether the longest in Sub-Saharan Africa and provides linkages to all beaches on the city’s eastern boundary, tourist centres, and the uMgeni River estuary cycle route and jogging track.

eThekwini’s multi-pronged holiday plan includes various activities, events, and activations through the city. It will officially kick into gear from 1 December 2019 and continue until 14 January 2020.

Drone footage showing the new promenade hit social media this weekend.

Eye in the sky Durban shared the video on their Facebook page captioned: "The opening of the completed promenade which runs from the harbour mouth to the Blue lagoon, if you missed the opeing [sic] here is a overview of this mornings opening. This is awesome for Durban's beachfront."
