Officials near the US-Canada border were left buzzing with panic on Friday morning after a truck carrying millions of honeybees overturned.

The truck was loaded with about 30,000 kilograms of hives and rolled over around 4am, sending millions of the tiny, winged escapees into the air.

Local sheriff’s deputies and beekeepers quickly swarmed to the scene in an attempt to wrangle the bees and save what they could.

Thankfully, the truck driver was uninjured - and no, before you ask, he wasn’t drunk either. Not even buzzed.

Authorities say it looks like a sharp turn wasn’t navigated quite as sweetly as it should’ve been.

However the real sting came a few hours later when the bees turned hostile, relentlessly stinging deputies on duty.

Some officers had to retreat to their patrol cars, probably wishing they’d worn beekeeper suits to work that day.

Authorities immediately warned the public to bee careful and avoid the area.

Beekeeping experts are now working on a sting operation (literally) to recover as many bees as possible.

The plan is to close off the road for a couple of days until the bees calm down, settle near their overturned hives, and agree to bee-have.

Over two dozen local beekeepers also rushed to assist with the rescue mission.

Honeybees play a crucial role in pollinating crops and supporting the world’s food supply, so it’s important they save as many of these pollinators as possible.
