Bafana Bafana have given us false hope

I feel sorry for South Africans who think Bafana Bafana will win both matches against Senegal and qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The South African national side brought its A-game against Burkina Faso at FNB Stadium and earned a crucial 3-1 victory, which has brought them back into contention for the top spot and World Cup qualification.

Bafana are still rooted to the foot of Group D with four points and two matches remaining. Senegal are on eight points with two encounters against Bafana Bafana at home and away to come. It means if Bafana win both they will finish on 10 points and pip Senegal to qualification.

On the other hand, Burkina Faso and Cape Verde are both on six points, but they have just one match against each other left, which means one can only finish on nine points.

Bafana Bafana could have sealed qualification by now but they lost twice on the trot against lesser opposition in Cape Verde. The team always disappoints when we expect them to step up to the plate and I see a similar ending to this movie.

I can’t be fooled by one lucky performance and start getting my hopes up. I had so much faith before the qualifiers started and I was the one who was fighting the negative people, but the team has let me down.

I hope we do qualify, but I don’t see it happening. I’m not being a pessimist, I’m being a realist. We can win the first leg at home next month, but do you think we can grind out a victory in Dakar?
