'A true pioneer and warrior for the Zulu nation' - Prof Sihawukele Ngubane

After the passing of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, the Breakfast team thought it was only fitting that they pay their respects.

Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi will forever go down as a legend in South African history. 

It was confirmed by the family that Buthelezi passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Darren Maule, Carmen Reddy, and Sky Tshabalala shared their sadness of learning of the passing of the Inkatha Freedom Party founder and Traditional Prime Minister to the Zulu Nation.

"Someone who was there from the beginning, you can see how much it means to the people of KZN," says Sky. 

The Breakfast team had so many questions regarding the whole process of 'what's next'.

In came Prof Sihawukele Ngubane, the Professor of African Languages and Head of the School of Performing Arts at UKZN and expert on Zulu culture and Heritage, to have a chat.

The founder of the Inkatha Freedom Party and Traditional Prime Minster to the Zulu Monarch & Nation passed away on Saturday (9 September) in eMahlabathini. 

Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube has informed the public of KZN that her office is engaging with the Presidency on the funeral preparations.

IFP leader Velenkosi Hlabisa praised the Prince and reacted to the way the IFP is grateful for his exceptional leadership over the years.

"This is an unspeakable loss for us. Condolences to the Buthelezi family as we will continue to uphold your legacy," says Velenkosi Hlabisa.
