1. Over 4000 people evacuated in Indonesia due to volcanic eruption

Thousands have fled the scene of a rumbling Indonesian volcano that burst to life for the first time in eight years, resulting in a massive column of smoke and ash. The evacuation of more than 4 400 residents came as Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted Sunday, spouting a thick tower of debris four kilometres (2.5 miles) into the sky, triggering a flight warning and the closure of a local airport.

2. Singer Cher helped bring lonely elephant to a sanctuary in Cambodia 

A 36-year-old overweight Asian elephant, who has spent much of his life languishing alone in captivity, is on his way to a sanctuary in Cambodia, thanks in part to the efforts of American pop star Cher. Early Monday local time in Pakistan, Free The Wild, a charity Cher co-founded, wrote on Instagram that Kaavan was being loaded onto a plane and beginning his journey to Cambodia.

3. Pig guts thrown in Taiwanese parliament during a fight

Lawmakers in Taiwan threw pig intestines and punches at each other as a fight broke out in parliament over a proposal to ease restrictions on pork imports from the United States.

4. Government issues a list of jobs in high demand

The Government gazetted a new list of 345 occupations that are in high demand last week. It includes a wide range of medicine-related fields, as well as engineering and ICT skills. There are hundreds of positions that do not require a university degree on the list.

5. Trump sends Biden a "get well soon" tweet

On Sunday President elect Joe Biden's office announced he was going to be examined by an orthopedist "out of an abundance of caution" after he twisted his ankle playing with the dog. Apparently he has hairline fractures in his "mid-foot" and will "likely require a walking boot for several weeks. President Donald Trump Tweeted “Get Well soon."
