The woman who only washed her dreads once a year
Updated | By Udesha Moodley-Judhoo
People don't understand the impact of not caring for their hair until it's sometimes too late.

Haircare is an underrated form of self-care for some, while others take it to the max.
While many people spend copious amounts of money to care for their hair, others might not see it as a priority or as part of their hygiene routine.
Many hair professionals don't recommend washing your hair daily, but frequent washes are part of a good hair care regimen.
Remember the woman who only washed her hair one a year for a decade?
Jodie visited the show Body Fixers, and the episode surrounding her story aired three years ago.
Jodie got the attention of the guys at Body Fixers when she told them she only washed her hair once a year. The team dreaded hearing this, but were eager to see what her dreadlocks looked like.
A recent article on Healthline revealed that: "Washing your hair too much can remove the sebum your scalp produces, which is vital to healthy, shiny hair. However, it’s fine to wash your hair once it feels unclean to the touch."
Before Jody unwrapped her hair from her bandana, she told them it was falling out in clumps. The big reveal got some 'Oohs' and 'Ahhs', but the makeup artist, Alex, crossed a line when he asked if he could smell her hair.
After she agreed, he described the smell and compared it to a horse's hair...
It felt disastrous, but we suspect it was all part of the show's appeal. Being candid with people who came onto the show might help with the ratings, but not so much with their feelings.
It was all water under the bridge when Jodie saw herself in the mirror after the transformation.
