Panel beater in KZN causes client's car to catch alight

Lighting a fire to burn refuse is not a solution to anything; it is a safety hazard and bad for the environment.

Many people open businesses from home in an attempt to earn a living.

While all businesses operating from home should follow a special set of rules and regulations, some companies, such as mechanics and panel beaters, must exercise more caution. The dangers and pitfalls of running such businesses from home can be catastrophic.

The primary safety hazard is fire safety. Even residential homes should be checked regularly for hazards. The number of residential fires that recently flared up around KwaZulu-Natal highlights the importance of regular fire checks, whether you're running a business from home or not.

A business owner's careless disposal of his refuse sparked a fire that spread across his property, setting his clients' cars alight.

According to the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), "A Malawian national operating a panel beating business from the property started a fire to burn refuse. The flames spread through the yard, which resulted in five customers' vehicles catching alight."

The incident took place on 2 July in Crocodile Road in Waterloo, KZN. The fire department and authorities arrived on the scene at approximately 1:29 pm. Gas cylinders close to the burning vehicles were removed, and firefighters from the Ethekwini Fire Department extinguished the blaze.
