Just another viral Dubai trend? Chai Malai Toast

A trend that seems to have started with Indian chef, Sanjeev Kapoor, has reached Dubai and become a craze for foodies.

We've seen some interesting trends in the luxurious and ultra-modern city of Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

From the infamous pistachio-filled Dubai chocolate to the 'Hairy Daddy' chocolate

And now, the Chai Malai Toast trend is said to be from Dubai, but no one really knows its true origin. We think it came from Sanjeev Kapoor, an Indian celebrity chef, presenter, and entrepreneur, who suggested the trend in July 2024.

The trend sees foodies take two slices of toast, spread on some fresh cream known as Malai and pour on traditionally made chai (tea).

While some are all for this food trend, others are on the fence. According to the Hindustan Times, "the dish has sparked curiosity and cravings, with Instagram videos highlighting its rich, comforting texture and nostalgic appeal."

There's a certain appeal about the pairing, considering that many people grew up dunking their crispy toast into their flavourful cups of tea. The difference here is that the tea is poured onto the toast.

"The trending dish consists of three primary ingredients: kadak chai (strong milk tea), malai (fresh cream), and sliced bread. In the viral recipe, fresh cream is sandwiched between two slices of bread. Then, hot tea is poured over the sandwich until completely soaked, making the bread soft enough to be scooped up with a spoon. A warm, rich, and nostalgic snack is gaining traction everywhere," reports Hindustan Times.
