Durbanite living abroad talks about dating in Australia

"I've been in Australia now for over 15 years, and I still get asked, 'How is your English so good?'"

If you're a singleton, you will know that the dating world can be brutal.

Regardless of where you live, dating has its pros and cons. For many people, it comes easily, but for the majority, it's sometimes safer to stay single and let go of the mingling.

Cindy Pillay, a Durbanite who has lived in Australia for over 15 years, shares her journey in the dating world in her comedy content. She is a RAW comedy semi-finalist for 2025 and has been using her TikTok page to showcase her style and comedy voice.

RAW is an annual Australian comedy competition for emerging stand-up comedians, which the Melbourne International Comedy Festival hosts.

Pillay is a communications and engagement professional who studied at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in the early 2000s. She is a great communicator and used her dating life (in Australia) as content material for one of her segments. It proved entertaining and made us proud knowing she hails from our vibrant city.

It was intriguing to hear people's perceptions of South African Indians in Australia.

We love how she integrated her heritage into the topic and found her comedic groove on stage. South Africans represent their heritage and diversity regardless of where they are.
